Angelina… Thornton?
Angelina’s full name is Angelina Jolie Voight, the daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight and former actress and model Marcheline Bertrand. She was born in Los Angeles, California on June 4, 1975, and her parents were separated when she was only one year old. Her father Jon moved to the opposite coast, a major influence on her decision to drop the Voight last name and to use her middle name instead.
Her on-screen appearances include movies such as Hackers (her debut starring in a feature film), Girl Interrupted (for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress), The Bone Collector, Pushing Tin, Gone in 60 Seconds, and, of course, Tomb Raider. She’s even appeared in numerous music videos for such artists as The Rolling Stones, Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, Antonello Venditti, and The Lemonheads.
I spent several years as a photojournalist when I was younger and spent much of that time photographing and/or interviewing celebrities such as Colin Powell, Jonathan Frakes, Tom Baker, Cybil Shepherd, Pierce Brosnan, and countless others. So, being starstruck is something that does not come easily to me anymore. I haven’t met her yet, but the star that is Angelina has definitely struck me!
So, all that notoriety and success — and she picks Billy Bob Thornton?! The most beautiful female actress to grace the screen in our generation, and she is betrothed to someone who sounds like he should be guarding vats of homemade moonshine in the holler? On the other hand, a dámn lucky guy. Life just isn’t fair…
UPDATE: Miss Voight was granted the right to legally change her name to Angelina Jolie on September 12, 2002.
