I’ve Got a Secret…

The "Intro to Geocaching" Series:
  1. I’ve Got a Secret…
  2. My Secret Activity, Continued…
  3. More Clues to my Secret…

I’ve done something mysterious many times during the last week:

  • You can’t do it in total darkness;
  • It requires batteries;
  • It can sometimes be more fun to do it with a partner or a group than by yourself;
  • You can’t do it at home, but you can do it while driving a car, riding a bike, rollerblading, or walking;
  • People from over 140 countries are probably doing it as you read this;
  • According to statistics compiled yesterday, it has been done 15,635 times around the world in the last seven days alone;
  • You need Internet access, but not necessarily while doing it — definitely before, and usually after;
  • Internet fees aside, your total startup cost can be less than $100;
  • It was done for the first time ever during the first week of May 2000 by a guy in the Northwestern United States named Mike;
  • It has been featured on television, radio, and in print, covered by everyone from ABC News to NPR to the Wall Street Journal;
  • It is fun!

If you know what this mystery activity is, just smile, give a nod and a wink, and pick up some trash while on your way…
