Mr. Destructo…
I wish I had started keeping record of the number and type of things three-year-old Sterling has destroyed since birth. It seems that everyday there’s something that could be added to the list. The day before yesterday he broke his sister’s lip gloss and a wooden railroad track. Yesterday it was one of his wooden Brio railroad cars. Today, even before 8:00 a.m., he added to his list a small squishy foam basketball which he apparently decided to peel like an orange.
I know where he might have got it though. An early recollection of mine as a child was ripping cloth-like wallpaper off my bedroom wall when we lived in England. It was a deep forest green with lighter green and white threads running through it. Quite horrific! I think I ripped it more one thread at a time as opposed to the current Mr. Destructo’s methods of mass and instant destruction, but I have no idea how I justified the act in my mind, other than the fact that the wallpaper was just plain ugly!
ADDENDUM: Oddly familiar, a couple months ago Sterling found a blemish in the plaster on his bedroom wall, and proceeded (over a several-week period) to peel it off the wall. I had to cut a nine-inch-long, two-inch-high hole in the plaster before I could cleanly patch and paint it up. Oh, and this weekend we found where he had decided to smash the wall with his plastic toy hammer, leaving two centimeter-wide areas where the paint flaked off. Time to break out the repair kit again…
