Additions to the OED…

I saw a commercial just a few minutes ago. It attempted to introduce a new verb to the American-English language: swiffering. It made me think of all the other recent new words and phrases, and new meanings and connotations that have been added over the last few years, some even sooner than that (in no particular order):

Ground Zero, al-Qaeda, Homeland Security, kleenex, xerox, java, W., treehugger, roadrage, netiquette, cybersex, cyberporn, d’oh!, applet, defrag, cell phone, dial-up, netizen, taskbar, zine, open source, exfoliant, spam, chat room, software, boy bands, full monty, homie, information superhighway, emoticon, webcast, Y2K, yadda yadda yadda, wiki, blogging…

Perhaps it’s my background or the fact that I’m sitting here staring at my computer while thinking about all the things I should be doing on the Internet, but it seems a high preponderance comes from technology. Let’s add some more, shall we?

Any suggestions?
