A Response From GE Capital
This response to my original letter came in two parts, the first an unsigned, error-riddled missive from an unknown service representative. It is fortunate for them (and not out of character) that the second letter arrived first.
January 21, 2003
Dear Mr. LeCour:
Thank you for your inquiry of January 15, 2003, concerning Mrs. Care Credit account.
Unfortunately, we are unable to address your concerns concerning her account, since you are not a signer on the account. The account is an individual account in Kimberly LeCour name only.
In order for the concerns to be address, Mrs. LeCour will need to contact our customer service number listed at the bottom of this letter, or correspond with us by letter.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-333-1071.
Sincerely,
Correspondence
Fortunately, they redeemed themselves later in a three-page, comma-happy letter, a second response that I doubt I would have received had I not copied the original letter to Jeffrey Immelt, the Chairman and CEO of General Electric. Information which was duplicated from my original (and also lengthy) letter is omitted here for the purpose of brevity.
January 30, 2003
Dear Ms. LeCour:
I am in receipt of a letter dated January 8, 2003, from Richard D. LeCour, which was forwarded by GE Capital Consumer Relations, and received in our office on January 27, 2003. Mr. LeCour’s letter concerned your CareCredit account, for which GE Capital Consumer Card Company, (GECCCC), is the credit provider. I appreciate the opportunity to address the concerns outlined in the letter.
GECCCC is bound by state and federal legislation regarding the release of sensitive information on the accounts we service. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide Mr. LeCour with a response, or with documentation, since this account is listed in your name only. We apologize; however, since you have provided us with a verbal authorization to speak with Mr. LeCour concerning your balance, we are unable to address our response to him; therefore, we are directing our response directly to you.
Please accept our sincere apology for any unprofessional treatment extended by our representatives. Customer service and satisfaction are a very integral part of our business, and our representatives are trained to provide that type of quality in the services they render. We sincerely appreciate that you shared your experiences, so that we may evaluate and explore other options, in order to provide our customers’ with a consistent high quality of service, that you, the consumer, expect and deserve.
CareCredit offers promotions that are interest free if repaid before the promotional period expires. Minimum monthly payments are required during the promotional period and finance charges are accrued, but deferred. If the promotion expires, all deferred finance charges, plus any remaining unpaid balance, are posted to the acount’s regular balance. This information is included on each monthly billing statement.
We apologize if there was a delay in receiving [the March 4, 2002] statement; however, our records indicate there was no postal issue, and the statement was sent to your billing address the first week of March 2002.
Whenever the minimum monthly payment indicated on the monthly billing statement, is not provided by the due date, a late payment totaling $29.00 is assessed to the account. This fee and additional terms and conditions governing the account were outlined in the Cardholder Agreement, which is attached to the credit application and sent with the credit card soon after an account is opened.
It is the policy of GECCCC to collect on a past due account. Our employees are trained to perform their duties in the highest standard and in full compliance with applicable law and policies. We sincerely apologize if our effort to collect on a valid debt was perceived as rude; however the notes on your account document that the telephone call completed on Sunday, September 8, 2002, at 11:32, (EST), which would have been 8:32, (PST), and is within compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act.
Please be advised, GECCCC, the credit provider on the account, is permitted by Ohio and federal law, to access late payment fees and finance charges on a revolving credit account, as long as such charges are assessed in accordance with the terms of the credit agreement.
We apologize if there was a misunderstanding regarding the regular purchases or the promotional agreements and time frames. We also apologize if there was a misunderstanding concerning the terms and conditions governing the account; however, the information was provided in an appropriate and timely manner. Had payment been received within the promotional time frames, there would have been no deferred finance charges to the balance of the account.
You are considered as a valued customer, and I would like to personally apologize for any unprofessional treatment rendered by our customer service representatives. Since the account balance was paid 23 days after the expiration date for two of the promotions, we have credited the remaining account balance.
These credits will be reported on the next monthly billing statement, which will conclude on February 4, 2003.
In addition, we have removed the delinquencies from the account history and this updated information will be included in our next monthly reporting to the credit bureaus.
As documentation of the preceding information, please find the Optional Finance Plan, the Cardholder Agreement, and the monthly billing statements. In addition we have included the authorization and estimate, and the itemized transactions completed at the Regents of UC Davis that were subsequently billed to the account.
Our representatives have tried to explain the situation on numerous occasions, and we apologize they were unable to provide you with an adequate explanation, and regret the situation was not handled in a more professional matter. We hope the preceding information clarifies this matter to your satisfaction.
If there are additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Robyn Rountree
For GE Capital Consumer Card Company
The fact is not lost on me that her letter was ALSO copied to Jeffrey Immelt; appease the customer, suck up to the big guy, and attempt to save face. Under the assumption that the February statement arrives with the expected credits (if it arrives at all!), I guess I’ll drop the matter of the $1.55, the skirmish, battle, campaign, and the entire war won…
I saw your letter to GE Capital Consumer Card Company. Where did you get the mailing address? I have been searching for it. Thanks.
I sent it to GE Consumer Finance, Post Office Box 276, Dayton, OH 45401, and secondarily to GE’s corporate headquarters address obtained from a recent SEC filing. - RDL
I work for GE Consumer Finance and have witnessed a lot of unethical behaviours within its walls. So much so I escalated on behalf of my peers to HR in my capacity as the union delegate. From there I was smirked at, had them roll their eyes at me and basically told me to come back when I had a real problem. As a staff member I seem to receive just as much flak from my team leader as customers receive from the more dubious characters that grace our building. Considering that I work in GE in Australia I find it interesting (and encouraging) to see that there are customers who are willing to stop throwing their money at this company and tell them that they are wrong. Beleive me in the world of unsecured personal credit its unbeleivable how many people get caught the same way you do without saying anything. You might find that the mistake may have come from a sales rep from the store that you originally purchased the goods from using your card again. Probably worth following up. Cheers J
I feel better knowing I am not the only one who has has difficulty with this company. I want to call them re my billing inquiry (to which they have not responded). Does anyone have a telephone for the Dayton office?
I may have some phone numbers for you. I have just been going through a similar situation where I was trying to resolve a billing error in my mother’s behave and they would not discuss it with me. A representative from their company called my mother and she told them to speak with me. He left his name and phone number for me to contact them. I ran into a brick wall when I attempted to do this however. They wouldn’t speak with me on verbal consent. I’m not getting into the long story and detail right now. I just noticed your letter and thought I’d share some information. You’ve probably already resolved your problem by now anyway. I was given phone # to call of 800 292 7508. Hint, press 0 before going through all those automated messages along the way. That may or may not work. The other was one the supervisor gave me when I called. The phone is 888 676 2722. The person I spoke to was Larry Gantt. He was very uncooperative. Good luck.
I have come to the conclusion that dealing with GE is a joke. I also had a CareCredit card, but this was for some dental work that my son needed. The dental office offered us a 12 Month Same As Cash financing option in which there were no payments / no interest for 12 months. We paid this off within 10 months. We did this in chunks - not consecutive months (as we were advised we could do). GE however, has not honored this. Despite speaking with two separate GE customer service people upon opening the account - going through the detials of “Same As Cash”, No Interest, No Payments, we have been charged with accrued interest, late fees and the like, due to the fact that we “missed” a month’s payment and therefore “terminated” the promotional offer. The promotional offer was for a term of 12 months. We paid in full within 10. During one of my calls to GE, their representative, Faby, advised me that they don’t set up terms, the dental office does. What is the problem then??? I have a letter in to Mark Berger who Faby advised me to write to. I have had no response, but have had the pleasure of the rash of early morning phone calls. I also recently found http://www.sameascashsettlement.com which involves GE and their misleading and unethical practices. I guess if nothing else, I feel better that I am not alone with my problems with GE, and see that there is a chance for resolution.
I live in the UK and am currently having problems with G E Capital. We moved house last April and contacted at least 30 companies with change of address, we also had our mail re-directed. G E Capital was the only company who deny that my call was ever made, even though it is on an itemised phone bill. They have added late charge fees and even a address search fee to the first statement I have received in over 6 months, their fees total
Richard: As a dissatisfied customer with excellent credit
My mother finance some dental work with the GE Care Credit Same as Cash Financing. She regularly paid the minimum balance on her bill. Unfortunately, she did not realize that if the balance was not paid off in full before June 15, she would be charged the accrued finance charge. She had only $70 left to pay, but now owes over $500 in finance charges! Does anyone know if there is anything she can do to avoid paying this outrageous amount? Any help would be appreciated.
I am glad I found all this out. I bought a scooter for my wife last week, 12 months no interest. I was surprised to see a credit card from GE Capital arrive in the mail. After reading your posts I call GE and found out, just as you said, that the no interest deal is void if I miss two monthly payments. I told the rep (Nara) that BestMobility.com had told me that there would be a min payment stated on the bill but that I could ignore it as long as I paid the balance off within 12 mo. Like others on this board she told me that she couldn’t change the promotion that BestMobility.com would have to do that from their end. We shall see. I did ask her when I could expect my bill, and verified that they had the correct address. The internet is full of complaints about this company. I guess I need to keep on top of it so I don’t have the same problems you all did. Thanks for taking the time to post all of this.
Is this still going on? I like most of the other folks want to buy some items. It looks like a class action suit may be in order.
Just found your ramblings. I also paid for something on a 4 month, no interest promotion. I paid three payment on time. All well and good!! However the last check was encoded wrong by Ge’s bank. When I discovered that I took the check to my bank and had them correct the error. This was in January of 2004. In February I received a bill for $171.00. I thought. Must be an error. It will straighten itself out. It did. Next bill was a credit for $171.00 Balance Zero!! Sorry, I neglegted to say that the encoding error was for $200.00. Then I received a bill with a charge on it for $200.00 Again it should straigten itself out. NO SUCH LUCK. I got calls about not paying the bill . Each time I explain what had happened. Once I spoke to someone named Alice. I was so frustrated I asked to speak to her supervisor, Sonja, who told me that I Had to have my bank supply documentation. In July i had a call from Nick Foucht. He said there was a check for $171.00 that was supposedly cashed by me.( I didn’t receive it.) He said he would haave a copy of it to me wwithin a week. Needless to say i haven’t received that either. Thenin early August , another call. This time a little sympathy. It is nice to feel someone is at least listening to you. i didn’t get her name but she said, “Oh! Your disputing the bill. She said she would inform whomever and I has a form in about four days. Well, Imailed off the form and copies a pertinent facts and luckily sent it certified mail return receipt requested. I wonder how long it willbe before i Hear anything from them. It was the same address that you have provided. Also, had a call on the 25th-Anna Smith at 5 P.M. and then another on the 28th, today from Nancy Fallows(?) and I asked her where she was . INDIA She gave me Jeff Emerick as the Pres of GE care. When I looked he up on Google he was a CPA. So thanks for the name of Jeffrey Immelt. I hope I don’t need it. Thanks for letting me venmt
? I’m trying to clean up my Credit report, but unfortunately I can’t seem to get any info. on accts. that I had opened & closed over 8 to 10 yrs. ago. and most of the company’s are all abbreviated, is there a place you can suggest I can go to obtain contact info. for business’ such as a business directory, possibly only. Also do you have a phone # for GECCCC? This is all so fustrating trying to contact comapny’s that want your money, give inaccurate info. to the credit bureau and then leave no contact info. for you there to dispute those inaccuracies, aughhhh!!
I received a “collection” call from a female who could barely speak English. She said she was calling from GE BANK. I was unable to understand the rest of her message but I was able to decipher the telephone number after listening to the message over and over. Where do they get these people?
I am in the midst of a Care Credit nightmare myself. This company is a sham company and I wish we could get a class action suit going as well as governmental agencies involved. I went to a chirpractor who said he was giving me a free exam. He took erays and told me to come back in two days. He said I needed 51 visits. He then quickly showd me the total amount for this…. 3085 American dollars, as well as amounts of 2500 dollars and another one I can’t remember if I paid a large amount per month. He then told his ecretary had called my insurance company and then said I could receive 1500 dollars a year for chiropractic but since it was May , he could spread it out ofvedr two years and I would pay nothing (two years at 1500 equals 3000)since the empire Plan (my insurance would reimburse me for the visits) He then showed me that I could pay Capital One (he never told me it was a credit care company) 93 dollars a month and would be chargeed no interest for one year…and since Empire would pay more than one 93 dollars a month reimbursement I would pay nothing) Note: I had been wondering where he came up with the 51 visits I “needed”, and the 3000 dollar figure….easy that is what the insurance company was supposedly willing to pay) Now I am paying this 93 dollars and getting no reimbursement from the Empire Play becasue I am sure they feel it it insane to go to a chiropractor for 51 visits. Hey, we need a class action suit against this whole sham. We need to get a senator or congressman involved…and attorney general or something…somebody with big weight. Hey, dopn’t forget about the newspapers, and those compalint solvers on tv. I would appreciate any advice about this, please. Is there a class action suit going someplace? I was NEVER told I was signing up for a credit card. Please write me at jecker@hoflink.com. I am not a blogger so write direct and put carecredit as subject. je
John, hard to quite follow your description of what happened, but it would seem to me that your complaint is with the chiropracter who seems to be clearly a criminal. I’d notify the local District Attourney’s office about how he wanted to cheat the insurance company (by claiming the treatment was spread over two years when it wasn’t) and that he wanted to cheat you by signing you up for a credit card against your knowledge. Again, it isn’t really clear from your description of the events, but I suspect the credit card company isn’t the one to blame. As far as they know you’ve signed up for an account and they gave it to you. The easiest thing to do with them is to cancel the card IMMEDIATELY and let them no that any further charges would be bogus. It may be that many of the charges you already have are bogus as well. Write the credit card company and dispute any charges.
I recently received an alternative financing plan for an extended warrenty from Ford which is a credit service of GE Capital Consumer Card CO. I purchased the vehicle in Aug. 2005 and to date 10/22/05 have not received any bills or information regarding this account, however I have received 2 phone calls saying my payment was late. They had the wrong mailing address and said they would update my address and send me a billing statement. It is over 10 days and I have not received any information on this account. How can you provide payments when you do not get a statement or any other information from the creditor? I don’t even know their mailing address to send them a payment.
I have been trying for two days now trying to find GE Capital Credit Card Services contact information. I need to find out their correct payment address, balance and correct credit card account. They took over my old Conseco credit card account. I need this information so that I can let CCCS of Atlanta know and make payments to them. I found your information while doing a web search for GE Capital.
I was never told that no interest for a year meant that GE Money Bank would compound the full amount in one month after the year was completed. 89 dollars plus was way too much interest. GE needs to advise people that once the time is up for the interest free period then the entire amount is due in full 0R COMPOUNDED AMOUNTS OF INTEREST WILL OCCUR. I closed the one account and now found I have another account with this Awful company. I feel I was misled and enticed by their no interest. This is a first for me as I have triple AAA credit and deal with other companies that do back up their no interest advertisement. Misleading, misled and WRONG. Not happy at all. If a class action law suit were to begin I definitely would participate. They entice consumers erroniously! Jovita Guerra
Hi, I am presently going through the same bull with GE Money Bank. I purchased a wood pellet stove from Kitchen Hearth and Stove in Binghamton, NY in Jan. 2005. I went there full well and prepared to pay for the stove in full, when the salesman offered a “No Interest/No Payment for 12 months” finance plan on the purchase. I said that was a great plan, why would I pay the $2800 in full if I could pay it over 12 months with no finance charges. I was never given an account terms explanation at that time so I left with only a credit card reciept. Over the following 12 months, I paid the $2800 balance down to $400 and when Jan. 2006 came, I figured I would start being charged interest on the balance. My Feb. statement came and to my surprise, the $400 balance was bumped to $1078. I figured this was a mistake and called customer service and was told that it was a deferred interest plan “not” and No Interest plan. I dug out the paperwork that I was given from the merchant and sent copies to GE explaining that the original reciepts stated that it was a “no interest/no payment” plan and not a “deferred interest plan”. Today I recieved a letter from GE stating the the statement that I recieved each month stated that it was deferred interest plan and that since I paid the promotional balance off 20 days after the end of the 12 months that I was responsible to pay the interest accrued for the entire 12 months. I have forwarded this to my attorney since the original reciepts that I had signed and was given at the time of purchase state “No Interest”. Is there anyone in this company (GE Money Bank) that can straighten this matter out without filing a lawsuit? This seems like a big SCAM.
Certainly GE and others who offer these kinds of programs don’t emphasize the details. They are far more interested in trumpeting the “NO INTEREST” part and leave the “for a year” in smaller print. Hoping to sucker folks like Matt Briel who don’t stop to figure out just what they are signing up for. But I have used these kinds of plans several times and have always been very aware that I had to pay it off within a year or I would be charged interest. A bank will lie and deliberately try to make things as confusing as possible. They will never give anything for free. So when they claim they do I always look for the hidden catch. If I don’t find one, I don’t sign up. Because I know it’s there somewhere. Only enter a room when you know where the traps are.
Gee Sean, you are a lot of help! Does anyone have any useful information that may help in getting GE to do the right thing and remove these outragious finance charges. I even called the merchant today and they still claim that there is No Interest for 12 months and don’t know anything about the interest being deferred and if the balance isn’t paid in the 12 months, all interest charges apply.
Well, I have to agree with Sean a bit here. In MY case, GE shortened my 12-month interest-free purchase to only 120 days, screwing up statements and balances left and right each month. In YOUR case, you admittedly paid after the 12 months expired. No, it doesn’t really seem fair that if you leave a balance of even only a penny that they will tack on the deferred interest, but most promotional payment plans work that way. In fact, I currently have a Home Depot account where I took advantage of a 12-month interest-free purchase last year. The difference between GE and Home Depot is that HD is honoring the terms they advertised, whereas GE blatantly did not. Either way, you can be sure I’ll be paying off the balance at Home Depot by the end of this May (two weeks BEFORE the due date!!) However, that said, I will close with the thought that I completely agree with you that many companies, GE included, do not make proper disclosure of terms in order to make a quick and dirty buck. - RDL
Sorry, Matt. I don’t have any useful info that may help for this particular case other than suggesting you push the matter with GE. Sometimes, if you’re persistent enough, you can get them to agree to a deal. I do have useful info for going forward: Never again sign up for an account where you are “never given an account terms explanation at that time”.
You all are not getting the whole story. The terms that were given to me at the time of purchase did not reflect anything that resembled that I would be billed the full interest if I did not pay within the 12 months. It in fact stated that there would be NO INTEREST/NO PAYMENTS for 12 months. Therefore I do not believe that I am responsible for the full amount of the interest, only the interest on the balance after the 12 months expired. They want me to pay the whole interest amount including the amount the wasn’t supposed to be charged for the first 12 months. That is my complaint.
Thank you Sean, I apologize that I was a bit irritated with the whole thing when I snipped at you earlier. I appreciate all comments. I have written them another letter explaining the matter again and have forwarded the matter to the Attorney General’s office for their review. I noticed that I have several accounts (Home Depot, Lowes and the Kitchen Hearth account) that are managed by GE and am closing all of them. I own a small company and be sured I use credit often, unfortunately for GE and credit companies like them, I will look a little closer in the future and never use them again.
Matt, without seeing all of the papers you signed when you opened the account there really isn’t any way for anyone to know what you’re legitimately on the hook for or not. But I would be AMAZED if they don’t say that the full interest on the entire amount becomes due if the full balance isn’t paid off within that initial 12 months. It may be not as clearly stated as one would like, or as obviously placed (although there are requirements about making these things reasonably prominent), but I’m sure it’s there. I’m sure because these “pay no interest for 12 months” plans are common now and every one I’ve ever seen has been the same. Yes, pay nothing for 12 months if you want, but if anything is still owed at teh end of that period interest on the original balance is charged. “NO INTEREST/NO PAYMENTS for 12 months”. Yes. Absolutely true. You don’t have to pay a penny for 12 months. But having interest on the full amount due after that point doesn’t contradict “nothing for 12 months” at all. Matt, I wish you luck. If you push you might (might) get something. Having several accounts managed by GE you might have some legerage. “Fix this to my satisfaction or I will take all of my business elsewhere, which will cost you more than fixing this to my satisfaction will cost you.” Sometimes it works. But realize, in this case, they probably are correct and you are on the hook for the full interest.
Wow, I just stumbled across this because I am getting flustered with the GE Money bank people.(aka GECCC) Though my situation is a little different. I purchased a motorcycle in 2002 and used Conseco “funancing” for it. They went bankrupt. Sold my account to Mills Creek Bank, they changed their name then sold me to GE Money bank. Ever since then I’ve had nothing but problems. First the invoices always come 5 days before they are due. Second I’ve notice as of the last 5-6 invoices they are charging me “over limit” fees of $30. Being that my loan is fixed term fixed payment I don’t see how they can do this. But it gets worse, I dwelved a little deeper to see that they have also raised my interest rate from 15% to 21% Again, being a fixed term loan it seems like this violates the original contract. Any calls to them always result in rude customer service reps telling me they can do that because my “card” is $3,500 over the limit. I never got a card from these people. They bought my loan and are now treating me like a credit card. Anyone have a clue what I can do about this? Any useful phone numbers that might get me to someone that understand the concept of a fixed term loan?
Sean, Thanks again, I have gotten the satisfaction from them that I was seeking. I assure you that I have read the documents that I signed over and over. What I have claimed is correct, that the original agreement states that interest would be charged after the 12 month promotion and did not say the total amount would be billed. GE has removed the interest from my account and billed me only for the interest on the unpaid amount after the 12 months. I did tell them that I would close all of my accounts and since have closed them. They (GE) are not GOD and don’t have the right to break the law! Which is exactly what they did by charging me the full interest. I would suggest that anyone in my situation, don’t accept the first denial letter that they send, resend your complaint until they do the right thing. I also forwarded everything to the NYS Attorney General for his investigation. They know what they are doing is illegal and know when to back off.
Matt - Glad to hear it all worked out.
I am a retired registered nurse, mother of a physician/surgeon and still active advocate for the elderly and handicapped. My experience with GE is a horror story and the reason a health professional should never offer Care Credit to his patients - because - as many of us have found, GE performs like an agency to whom an account is sold for collection. When a surgeon is paid in advance by an agency that deals with a heavy hand, he may thumb his nose at medical ethics without fear of financial aftermath. He may schedule elective surgery like implants after cataract surgery so prolifically as to have no time for aftercare when a patient suffers excruciating pain – as I did – with abrasions from too hasty pre-op preparation – while the surgeon’s receptionists insist that direct contact with the doctor on the day of surgery “is not a part of the process”.
The day after the surgery, during a tightly scheduled meeting with this surgeon, he verbally assaulted me for “abusing his staff with my frequent calls”. He then called the office manager in to witness that he was “putting me out of his practice”. He did this so loud; so violently that my blood
pressure spiked from normal range, 120/80, to 178/92 where it has continued to hover for almost three months, reaching as high as 191/91 just last week. (At 78, had I not been in excellent health, the surgeon’s attack could have resulted in cardiac failure. It now appears that I’ll be taking medication for hypertension for the rest of my life.)
Yes, I know how to deal with it while being threatened with legal action by GE. But how many seniors like myself are up to the challenge – especially when the complaint form deals only with merchants’ charges for goods or services, or with fouled orders? I have filed grievance with Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licencing and with the American Medical Association. But what if I’m dead and buried before they respond? How many seniors will continue to be victimized by these few unethical gatherers of instant wealth, thanks to GE Care Credit?
Comments on the above are invited — J.V.H.
I just found out that GE has changed the billing cycle. We bought two products on the card, total should have been $69. The dealer said it was GE’s fault, GE says it was the dealers fault. The bikes were split into two purches 10 days apart. that means $69 apeice. I am on a fixed income so working things out prior to buying is important. GE or EXTREME POWER SPORTS in Powhaten point, Ohio refused to help. I told them I would return the products, and they said I would only be given used price for them even though only 2 weeks old and never driven NOT 1 mile. Decided to keep them and find ways to pay extra cost. Now since October 2005, GE changes the billing cycle to the 29 instead of the 4. My finances do not come untill the 3. Now my bill is late, $35 late fee added on comes to $198 that is a far cry from $69. Called GE and they say “We changed everyone’s fixed billing cycle”. They say they can not do anything because of the program, I say anyone who knows anything about a computer can do something. Not the data entry people they use, but a true IT person. With this new “billing cycle” if they do it to 100,00 people that is $350,000. And I thought there was no way to make money anymore, oh wait loan sharking is legal right? just wondering if this happened to anyone else who would want to speak up. Sounds like we might have legal action if more come forward.
They credit my last payment 14 days late, then came back and charge me $500.00 for “defered interest” charges. Any idea how I can fight this? Thanks. My email address is BOLSITE@AOL.COM
I bought a camera at Brandsmart USA using their credit card which is issued by GECCC. I returned it 5 days later for a full refund. For whatever reason, GECCC has continued billing me for the camera and has doubled the price with added late fees and interest since I refuse to pay.
Neither the store nor GECCC was interested in trying to communicate with each other to see where the problem is. GECCC customer service is crude and rude and basically nothing more than a bunch of collection agents. One of their managers had me fax in a copy of the return receipt which I did. Of course she never got it. So I refaxed it. Next time I talked to her she accused me of forging the receipt and demanded I mail them the original. Yeah right! That would be the last time I ever saw it and my proof would go poof.
Brandsmart has basically invited me to sue them. I hate the thought of having to do this but it appears to be the only way to get my credit restored. My thought is to name both GECCC and Brandsmart as defendants.
Any thoughts, advice out there?
If anyone has process of service information for GE Capital I would sincerely appreciate it.

I too am in the same boat with these crooks as you all. I’m continuing to make the minimum payments on a Balance that has already been paid in full.
Since they leave me no choice but to make these deferred finance payments even though they got a check for the full balance I’m filing a small courts claim in the County I live.
Rusty G: I’m continuing to make the minimum payments on a Balance that has already been paid in full. Since they leave me no choice but to make these deferred finance payments even though they got a check for the full balance
What do you mean they leave you no choice? You could stop making payments you don’t owe.
I wouldn’t make payments to anyone I don’t own money to. Once they have your money, why should they pay any attention to you? Far, far better to keep your money in your own hands, under your own control. ONce you give it to them you not only have to convince them they are wrong, you then have to get them to give the money back!
I’ve had many credit card companies claim I still owed them (because they were still billing me for an amount which I had disputed, because they hadn’t yet credited the payment I sent them, whatever). And without exception I’ve never had to give them money that I didn’t agree I owed.
I send them a clear, concise letter saying why they are wrong and warning them not to even dream about upsetting my credit rating. If they send me a second notice I call them on the phone, read them my letter, and tell them I had better never hear from them again about the matter. I ask to get transferred to a supervisor the instant the person I’m talking with becomes unhelpful.
So far, has worked all but once. That time (after being told everything would be fixed to my satisfaction) I got a letter from a collection agency some months later. I called the collection agency, told them I didn’t owe the money, faxed them a copy of my original letter, warned them again that they better not touch my credit rating, and never heard about the matter again.
I’m convinced the credit card companies (and collection agencies) are counting on people to just cave and, you know, stupidly just keep sending them money anyway.
I have just got of the GE/ Care Credit lack of customer service phone call, then decided to search the web to see if anyone else was treated rudely by thier customer service representatives. I see that I am not the only one that they have pìššëd off. You know I asked the person I just talked to who her manager was and she said her manager was an address???? then got all shirty when I asked for her oporator number. Sorry but in NORMAL situations I would never call people names but after trying to get help from these morons and ending up in tears because they treat you like you are a child I decided well if they are gonna treat me like a child then ill act like one. I did call them names. And it sure made me feel better!!!
and my GE account is called “Care Credit” at 28.8% interest rate…mwahhhhaaaahaaa what a joke, I hope these báštárdš all get a nasty case of incurable crotch itch that never heals!!! Care credit my ášš…..
I was shocked to see that you too, have a phoney account in the name of GE Capital, Lowes. My husband and I paid all of our debts after the sale of our home. Two months later we started getting letters from this company stating that we have an overdue account with them for Lowe’s. We don’t even have a Lowe’s in our town! Within the past three months we have been recieving mail from an attorney for the collection of the account with GE Capitol, Lowes. I thought we had forgot to pay someone off until I saw the words Lowes on the information regarding the account we were being “hunted down” for. According to them we owe $1500.00! I wonder how many people in our situation, with several credit accounts, pay these people money they really didn’t owe in an attempt to pay everyone off and wipe the slate clean? I know that’s what we were doing, but these people won’t get a dime from us! I’m just glad I saw the letter from the attorney before my husband tried to send them a check!
You stated on a previous comment that the Federal Trade Commission had to see a pattern before charges would ever be filed. We’ll tomorrow they will be getting a call from me. I don’t know if you have had any other comments on this with a phoney Lowe’s account, but it would be nice to here from you to find out
If there are enough of us, I’m sure we can rally together to get something done!!!!! That’s what it’s about !! Standing up for our rights as consumers!!
Love to here from you
Jenn
I didn’t bother talking to GE Capital since they were not responsive. I instead went to my Dentist that gave my wife the stupid contract and let them have it. They called GE credit and the thing was fixed immediately. The medical practitioner and GE Credit both make money off of the deal and the two money makers are usually willing to fix a problem when it starts to impact them personally, for example a threat to report the Dentist on local practitioner lists etc.
I too have been ripped off by GE Capital. They are thieves. Preying on those who are two minutes late getting one payment in. And it doesn’t matter to them if you paid over your minimum the month before. They’ll jack your interest rate up to 28.7% for any reason they see fit. As far as I am concerned they owe me money. I have paid off the account and closed it, but after reading a few letters I just bet I am going to get another statement from them saying I owe them more money. This was a Sam’s Discover Card. I had know idea it was through GE Capital. I had heard bad reports from their customers before and had always steered away from GE. I was shocked to see my interest rate go up so drastically and called to find out why. They couldn’t tell me. That’s when I found out it was a GE Capital card. I knew then I had made a BIG mistake not checking into the bank behind the Sam’s Discover card. I told Sam’s how I was badly treated and suggested they stop doing business with them or I’ll stop doing business with Sam’s.
Can someone tell me where I can mail the President of GE CARE CREDIT a letter? Based on what I have read I am not sure anything will come of it.
I tried to pay off my balance on medical treatment at the 11th month ( one year contract) and based on the fact I was late twice in making my payment they are charging me the finance fees which resulted over 3 thousand.
I had two life altering events occur over the past two months and I was late by a week in payment. What a horrible scam. What can be done?

I have been fighting with GE money for months now. They offered a good interest rate without mentioning that they would op to pay off the newer loans first. I paid thousands over minimum to close high interest payments and then pay on the low interest. They took the money, applied it to the wrong interest [not the oldest bills] and then demand double minimum the next month. They are way ahead on cash in from me and demanding more while charging interest on interest. I am looking for a legal way to SCREW them. I have most of the contact names and they are trying to buy google which would give them unpresidented access to records. We have to stop them. They bought Discover card which was started by Sears. This matter is now befor Congress and I hope you all look it up and lean on them.

Have I got this right? You’re asking if Richard, a private individual who happens to keep a blog, was previously known as Customized Auto Credit Services?
Seriously?
