Pickup vs Pedestrian…

According to the San Jose Mercury News, an 89-year-old man was killed yesterday morning by a driver who proceeded through the intersection when the signal turned green. The man was struck by a Ford S-350 pickup driven by a female from Boulder Creek. The driver was preparing to turn onto the Highway 85 south on ramp.

I know the woman — well, at least I know her by sight, not exactly a friend and barely an acquaintance. My wife works in the next office from her.

I don’t mean to be callous about the accident, but his problems are over. Hers are just beginning — not only does she have to deal with any future legal aspects, but the psychological issues she is experiencing (will experience) are likely immense.

There is no indication that she did anything wrong, but it makes you slow that car down just a bit…

I don’t know the woman. I didn’t see what happened. I know nothing other than what I’ve just read in your few sentences here. She may not have done anything wrong and, lord knows, given the way I drive I could easily find myself in a similar situation one day. Disclaimers and caveats aside, my immediate honest first thoughts are that she did do something wrong. She didn’t see a grown man in the intersection? An 89-year-old probably wasn’t moving too fast and from your description I infer she started fro a full stop (proceeded through the intersection when the signal turned green). Yet she didn’t notice any activity around her while “preparing to turn onto the Highway 85 south on ramp”? IMH (and uninformed) O, she did do something wrong.

Today’s news update indicated that witnesses supposedly indicated that she could not have seen the man. But that’s not the point of my bringing it up. Wrong or not, imagine what’s she’s going through… - RDL

Oh, yes. Great sympathy for what she may be going thru. Even truly unavoidable tragedies take a toll.
