Basic Thought Spewing…

I have two weeks of catching up to do:

  • Why is it that when people see a “Wet Paint” sign on a wall, they have to touch it just to make sure? I saw three people do that at the Santana Row shopping mall late last month. What, do they think the sign is lying?
  • Along a similar vein, why is it that at a store that is not yet open and that has a crowd of people waiting to get in, newcomers will walk up to the front door and test to see if it is locked? The same question goes for those people waiting at a crosswalk and a latecomer pushes the electronic “Walk” button. Like his or her finger is going to make the difference!
  • I found an email address that I had forgotten about and hadn’t used in four months. Meanwhile, it has accumulated 20MB of email. When I retrieved the email (in order to clear it off my server) it counted 5,784 emails. All spam, except for three viruses. Instantly eradicated, of course. I hate spam. I hate spammers more.
  • Income taxes are due next week. It is insult upon injury that I OWE taxes when I’m unemployed, yet have zero tax liability during previous years when I was employed. Anybody want to send me a check for $1,400? Thanks, President Bush, for sending me the useless $800 tax rebate when I didn’t need it, as opposed to letting me use the tax credit when I need it most. Thanks, again!

On the other hand, I’ve seen people get in line and wait when NOBODY has tried the door to see if it’s locked, and it wasn’t. So were the people you saw fools, or intrepid souls who don’t just follow the herd?
