ItsYourDomain is Back!
[I've been so freakin' busy lately I just haven't had time to blog. It was a lot easier to find the time when I worked normal 9-5 hours -- the schedule was steady, I needed breaks, I had more time at home, etc. When I was fully unemployed, it was also easier to blog, but when working for yourself full-time, there are far fewer down times.]
Remember my original complaint about ItsYourDomain.com about six months ago? It might be rearing its ugly head again.
Thanks to the new domain management page that I wrote and posted on my site, it is much easier to see and be notified when my domains are about to expire. I looked at the page the other day and noticed a few things. In two months, I had about a dozen domains registered through GoDaddy.com ready to expire (which I have since renewed), and I’ve been getting emails every week or so from them for the past month telling me so. Another domain was parked at Network Solutions, the email address assigned to which I had shut off so I have no idea whether or not they notified me, although based on past experience I’d say they were making proper attempts.
Of note, one last domain registered through the slimy, rapacious, scum-sucking, underhanded registrar ItsYourDomain.com is ready to expire in just over three weeks. The email address assigned to them has always been active, and I have yet to receive a single email message notifying me of the pending expiration. They swore up and down six months ago that they notified me no less than seven times before domain expiration. This second lack of notification is further proof that ItsYourDomain.com blatantly lies in order to garner the $100 late fee it imposes to reinstate stealthily and improperly deleted domain names. They charge $14.95 for on-time re-registration, and $114.95 if you’re five days late.
I am now attempting to transfer both the domain at Network Solutions and the one at ItsYourDomain.com over to GoDaddy (which only charges $7.95 for transfers!) I received a request for authorization within hours from Network Solutions and, after following those instructions, quickly received an email stating that the “domain name transfer request has been approved.” Hurray for Network Solutions. Expensive at $34.99 per year, but trustworthy, reliable, and easy to work with.
I have yet to hear anything from ItsYourDomain.com — the domain remains in “Pending Current Registrar Approval” status.
Like they should have any say at all…
[UPDATE (06/04): The domain previously parked at Network Solutions is now fully transferred to GoDaddy. No update yet on the one from ItsYourDomain. It's MY domain, dammit! Let me have it!]
Hi Richard, I receive notifications from itsyourdomain.com about domains that are to expire, so it is possible your spam filter is blocking them. But on another note, did you know that they automatically refuse all transfers as a matter of policy. Once you are there, you are STUCK there without putting up a big fight. They STEAL your domain this way- in effect, you have to go through so much drama to get your site away from them. I have 17 domains there, and next week I will initiate a transfer on all of them at one time by serving them a written request via USA certified mail. They want to say that these requests must be automated, but the fact is, they ignore ALL requests. I am filing a ripoffreport.com on them right now, you should too. Hank

Google itsyourdomain and the third item on the list is the blogs Richard’s been posting here. You’d think these folks would know better than to pìšš off someone who knows how the web and search engines work.
Richard, I am having the same problem that you have with itsyourdomain. How have you been successful in getting your domains away from them? I am really pìššëd. Jack
Since the story continues on other pages, I’m closing out this page for comments. If you have anything to add, finished reading the rest of the saga, and then add your comments at the end. Thanks!
