Randomness…

Vacation was great, but now I’m back to the daily grind: I’ve finished going through over 4,400 emails and 18 phone messages, and thereby discovered that I missed absolutely nothing during the two-week absence…

I’m already looking forward to our next vacation in September: Hawaii. It’ll be my first visit to the islands. I’m treating it as a business trip, although it’ll be vacation for Kim, as I’ll be there primarily to photograph a wedding reception. Here’s, once again, to keeping costs low…

I love the Internet. Big surprise, considering much much time I spend on it during any given day. Through it, Kim has rediscovered an old high school chum, and I’ve reacquainted myself with some old friends, too. I was absolutely thrilled to see a comment posted last week by Margo Coffman while we were on vacation; I last saw her in 1988 or ‘89 and haven’t had any contact with her other than including her on our Christmas card list for the last few years. I am looking forward to the reacquaintance…

I get about 11,000 visits per month on my Ramblings but only a little over a calculated 200 clicks per month on the new Google ads that I signed up with about three weeks ago. Yet I’m making more money with those than I am with some of the old standbys like Amazon and Travelocity. Once visitors are hitting around 750 clicks per month on the Google ads, I should be breaking even once again. Please note that this is *not* a solicitation for Ramblings readers to click the links for no reason or solely to increase my revenue…

Weird thought: if I died today, the Ramblings would probably disappear by the end of September — not for lack of payment, but simply due to the amount of traffic I get on all the domains that I host. The Ramblings are updated more than any of the other websites or blogs, and once the server logs that record traffic fill up the 300MB or so that I usually have free, no more updates can occur. Since I get more than 250MB of logs every two months, it wouldn’t be long before someone made the last comment that broke the camel’s back; the main website page would be blank forever (or at least until the logs were archived and removed)…

I’m getting more obsessed with completing (or at least working on completing) my life goals. I want several activities every year to focus around these goals. Of course, the more I do and the more I think about them, the more fun stuff I add!…

I’m thinking of making the entire month of August a scientific study of weight loss and fast food intake, getting at least two of three daily meals at fast food restaurants in an effort to prove that it is possible to lose weight and still frequent McDonald’s, Subway, and other establishments. Others have done similar experiments, but no one has posted quantitative data like I plan to…
