Vacation 2004: Day Ten…
One of the best days so far! We visited the Virginia Safari Park, the kind you drive through at 5 mph with your car windows open, feeding the animals from small white buckets that contained expensive food. Picture-taking at the beginning was tough as the more aggressive animals were waiting for the helpless humans. We were initially barraged with camels, llamas, and ostriches, all sticking their long necks far into the vehicle in an attempt to reach the food they knew was present. Once past the initial foragers, the animals were much calmer and friendlier, the exception being one of the zebras that stole one of the full buckets of food that Cortney failed to keep a tight grip on. All in all, we saw the already mentioned camels, ostriches, llamas, zebras, plus several varieties of deer, bison, pigs, oxen, emu, and rams.
Then came Monticello. This time it was Sterling who puked. What is it with our kids and the homes of ex-Presidents? Maybe we should skip Mount Vernon?! Obviously more complete and restored than Montpelier, but disappointing that no photographs inside the residence were allowed. Nice way to ensure that visitors purchase photographic souvenirs from the gift shop — which we somehow completely failed to find. Tonight’s movie: Big Fat Liar.
