Airspeed Velocity of…

At long last, zoho.org is finally within my grasp. Now that it’s moved over to my primary registrar, I’ve been able to update the DNS and migrate the website to the new server. The .org registry must propagate much faster than the .com and .net registries as the DNS and contact information changes were reflected almost immediately.

But the migration problems have continued, of course. The lecour.net domain is one of the two most critical domains, so I attempted to move that one slowly over. All the data and software is in place, and I just have to wait until the propagation is complete before I can reassure myself that the transition was as smoothly as it seemed. It was late on Sunday, however, when I tried to remove the virtualhost for cageocoins.com (which isn’t currently used for anything anyway, and is already pointing toward the new server) that the Apache web server on the old server completely failed to load. Apparently, a bug in the administrative control panel of Interland’s Freedom server causes some form of corruption when it is used to remove virtual hosts. Had I known that, I wouldn’t have even tried removing it. Hindsight is 20/20, so they say. It took a 30-minute-long phone call to technical support at Interland to resolve the issue.

I was able to update the nogosek.com nameservers myself because I had forgotten that I was the administrative contact for the domain. At least that went smoothly.

Progress this weekend has been slow, primarily because I’m trying to keep other priorities — went hiking with Sean yesterday, went to Tapestry in Talent this morning, miscellaneous playing/shopping/napping with the family this afternoon. As long as things on the servers are still working, I’m not in that much of a hurry, although I’d like to complete the entire process by mid-month in order to save on a month’s hosting fees.

On yet another tangent, Tapestry in Talent’s website was hijacked about two months ago. That bites! Same thing happened last year to my rdlnatl.net domain.

As for the answer to the age-old question as to the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow, it has been solved.
