Random Spam Nonsense…

I’ve been getting the usual number of spam comments on my blogs lately, but the latest trend is odd, to say the least. Most comment spammers have been advertising either their own URLs (the oldest trick in the spamming book) or the URLs of other blogs that don’t clean up spam comments (a technique that increases the Google ranking of the unfortunate blog and, by association, increases the Google ranking of the spammer’s website). However, many of the spams I have received this week don’t seem to accomplish any purpose whatsoever.

All the abnormal comments that have appeared already this week I deleted, not really paying that much attention until today. This morning’s spam, generally similar to the others this week, was “Please visit some information about…” That’s it. No URL. No company name. No text that could be used to increase my own Google ranking. Not even a complete sentence; just those five words. The only commonality is that each comment has listed email addresses volunteered by the spammer (which is never displayed on my blogs anyway) that originate in Eastern Europe or Russia, probably fake and appear to serve no purpose.

I must admit that I am puzzled.
