As Long as it Takes…
I’m thinking of an object. What is it?
OK, dámnìt, fûçk most of the rules… Just ask away! I wasn’t planning on posting rules, but I’ve since changed my mind:
- Please submit Yes-or-No questions only,
and only one at a time. With certain questions, I may provide an answer other than Yes or No, but please try to formulate a question that would require either answer. Wait until the previous question is answered before asking a new one. If at least 8-10 hours has elapsed since the posting of the previous, unanswered question, you may then submit a new question without waiting longer. It’s OK if two or more people submit a question almost at the same time, resulting in more than one new question.- The object is precisely but fairly chosen and the final “winning” question must be very specific; i.e. if the object is a 1966 Porsche 911 S (which it is not!), merely asking “Is it a Porsche?” will not suffice even though it might receive a “Yes” answer. A question such as “Is it a 1966 Porsche 911?” might result in a response such as “Close”.
Can you physically touch it? [Yes]
Is it liftable by the average adult? [Yes]
Is it alive? [No]
Was it (or a major component of it) ever alive? [No]
Would a typical child (say 5-7 years) know what it is? [Maybe]
Does it require power/electricity? [No]
Is it bigger than a microwave? [No]
Is it smaller than an apple? [No]
Is it Mineral? [Yes]
Is it vegetable? [No]
Is it Animal? [No] (Note that more than one can get a yes answer)
[Note that the answer to a previous question indicated that neither the object nor a major component of the object was ever alive. - RDL]
[The comment poster objected off-line to my note above, citing poop as an example. Since poop usually is a result of undigested byproducts of things either vegetable or animal that were once alive, I believe my previous note is still valid! - RDL]
Is it a common household object? [No]
Can it be bought in a store? [No]
Is it used for entertainment? [Maybe]
Is it man-made? [Yes]
Does it take a lot of expertise to make? [Yes]
Is it a decorative object? [Yes]
Do you have one in your house? [No]
Is it soley decorative? (Or asked another way, is it also functional?) [Maybe]
Does it weigh more than 10 pounds? [Yes]
Does it weigh more than 25 pounds? [No]
As a decoration, does it sit (as opposed to hang, for example)? [Yes]
(If we can only ask Yes/No questions, you should only be able to give Yes/No answers.)
[When referring to a computer keyboard, the question "Is it used with one finger?" might receive a Maybe answer. Asking questions as "Can it be used with one finger?" or "Is it always used with one finger?" would provide clearer answers. Ask better questions, or ones that do not rely on objective interpretation!
- RDL]
Sorry, didn’t see that you’d modified the posting and now had rules. (Rules? Sheesh!)
Is it usually displayed outside? [No]
Would you see this object during a holiday? (ie: Christmas) [No]
Looks like it may take a while? [Yes]
Is it multi-colored? [No]
Is it always the same color? [Yes]
Is it black or white? [No]
Is it seasonal? [No]
Have you made one? [No]
is it common? [No]
Will it ever be guessed? [Yes]
Will I live long enough to see that? [Maybe -- depends if the line of questioning ever gets back on track]
Haven’t visited you for a while Richard, but I was organizing favorites and here you are. Did anyone ever guess “what is it?” Did Sean? Suggestion: Have been examining a number of blogs just recently. Was delighted to see on Instapundit that the reader has an opportunity to increase the font size. Us old folks really appreciate that. Might you consider doing that, or just plain old increasing the font size across the board? Your white on navy is already challenging enough. Cheers!
No, no one’s guessed it yet! On the note of “white on navy”, I’m already waaaaay ahead of you; anyone can change the look of my site themselves — with a little know-how, of course! If you use Firefox (which any self-respecting web surfer does), you can create/edit the userContent.css file that is located on your computer which can be used to override the look of almost any website. Many forward-thinking, cutting-edge developers (myself included) include a special tag on the body of the website (called a CSS signature) that let’s you create a custom look ONLY for that website!! It’s slightly technical for the average user, but anyone with a simple text editor can make RR… look mauve on puce with a 22-point cursive font — if they so desired. Of course, there’s always the possibility of blue on black with an Egyptian background… - RDL
Oh, no! What has she done?! Doesn’t she know the trouble that can ensue when one criticizes someone’s choice of font and background color?? [No]
[Giving this a little bump] Can it be carried? [Yes]
Geez, this started in 2005. Do you remember what the object is? [Yes]
Do you own the object? [No]
Is it more than 5 lbs? [Yes]
Is it more than 10 lbs? [Not sure. Somewhere between 7 and 12 pounds.]
Is it more than 15 lbs? [No]
Is it more than 20 lbs? [No]
Is it more than 25 lbs? [No]
