About This Blog (v2006)…
Happy 4th anniversary to RR…!! This blog was first created in March of 2002 with Movable Type. Eventually, with the 3.0x versions, MT migrated to a pay-per-author structure and mandatory registration with TypePad. I became disillusioned with where the franchise was heading, thanks also to some other significant user interface changes that differed greatly from my own direction, so I stuck with my faithful and flexible v2.63 release.
Unfortunately, over time, that meant I slowly grew out of sync with some fairly significant upgrades. Once I began to be inundated with comment and trackback spam (to the tune of several dozens per day and despite my vigilance in religiously updating MT-BlackList), and a hacker exploited a vulnerability in PHPGedView (open source genealogy presentation software) and managed to run some hacking tools on my server at Spry Networks, I realized that a fresh start was in order, so (after disabling the hacker, of course) I then:
- moved some domains over to ASO, including this one, in order to minimize risk — put my eggs in different baskets, so to speak;
- researched today’s blog software and happily settled on WordPress; and
- created a new look for the blog and added some quite cool features.
With the transition of the underlying blog software language from Perl to PHP, the blog immediately gains significant potential in functionality and design. It does lose the inherent rebuilding mechanism of MT into static HTML — which I quite miss (although apparently an available plugin that I may someday try out caches HTML versions of compiled comments and blog entries). That aside, I’m quite happy with the responsiveness with the backend MySQL database at this point. The one thing I am least looking forward to is the significant work required in referring the old MT pages to the new WP URLs.
Some of the exciting new features include blog previews, tiered categorization, and a whole new look for archives; and, if nothing else, at least Sean’s Mom will appreciate the bigger font sizes of the new design!
Isn’t it funny all she talks about is her “modeling days” but the fact is she was a FULL TIME stripper for years and years. I was there the whole time she worked at “Tens” for like five-six years, even when she was in playboy!! What an idiot.
OK, I’m going to assume Donna’s comment was intended for the infamous Psycho Playmate series of blogs and doesn’t actually refer to the only female actually mentioned in this particular entry…
Hmmmm.
First impression: Kinda Halloweeny
But I do like the larger font, and the categories could be fun to rummage around in!
Should you want to poke another Stephanie-like site (well, hopefully not another Stephaine-like person exactly, of course) try corykahaney.com. Slow to load, menu bars flip around from page to page. And the first time I’ve ever had to be instructed to “click on my right leg” (with an arrow pointing to her left leg) to get to a page.
Yes, I suppose it is kinda Halloweeny, almost pumpkiny (if that’s a word), but I decided early on with burnt orange as the main accent color and the rest just fell into place. I still had a strong desire to play with contrast on eyes, thus the light gray/burnt orange on black. That was part of the early motivation with the yellow on blue of the previous design.
But a long, long way from dark blue on black…
Must have missed this comment! ROFL!
