May-July 2006 Server Logs…

I wrote a new Perl script last night with which I can automatically look up and (just as importantly) archive a month’s worth of hostnames and whois information for every non-spamming, non-spider visitor that views an unspecified number of web pages here on my ramblings — which, of course, is preserved in a PDF file. Having run it, I discovered a few interesting places these folks are sitting and surfing:

  • City of Virginia Beach Municipal Center (Virginia)
  • Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Canada
  • Department of Veteran Affairs
  • Daimler Chrysler
  • Disney
  • Federal Aviation Administration
  • Federal Bureau of Prisons
  • Fort Lewis military personnel transfer and training center (Washington)
  • General Electric Consumer Products
  • Goldman Sachs
  • Grand Forks Air Force Base (North Dakota)
  • Hearst Corporation
  • Hertfordshire County Council (United Kingdom)
  • Internal Revenue Service
  • Ireland’s National Training and Employment Authority
  • Martin County Board of County Commissioners (Florida)
  • Ministry of Finance, Belgium
  • National Institute for Health and Medical Research, France
  • National Iranian Oil Company
  • Office of Information Technology Administration, Thailand
  • Ohio State Board of Regents
  • Perth Zoo of Western Australia
  • Robins Air Force Base (Georgia)
  • Santa Clara County (California) Government Center
  • Sheppard Air Force Base (Texas)
  • State of Oregon
  • State of Tennessee Department of Education
  • State Scientific Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics, Russia
  • Tupperware
  • US Army Headquarters in Kuwait

  • US House of Representatives
  • Various from Amman, Jordan
  • Various from Israel
  • Various from Qatar
  • Various from Saudi Arabia
  • Various from Syria
  • Various from United Arab Emirates
  • Various from Vietnam

I guess next I’ll have to see what they were searching for and what they were looking at…

Interestingly, (entities chosen at random) the US House of Representatives was interested in ItsYourDomain. An Iranian Oil worker was looking for Anna Nicole Smith, as were Army soldiers in Kuwait and an individual in the United Arab Emirates. Folks at Daimler Chrsyler skipped DD’s and went straight for the jugs of Lolo Ferrari. Someone at Disney searched for “stephanie adams martin siegel”, the FAA was trying to get rid of that pesky Manifest Parse Error, and an agent at the IRS was trying to convert audiobooks onto his/her iPod. Somebody at Robins AFB was looking for photos of the Ohio Air National Guard and found the article on Wake Island. Someone at Tupperware was seeking the IT manager at Vistana Resort. US Customs and Border Protection personnel were trying to both create the look of torn paper with Photoshop and resolve a nightmare with GE’s CareCredit. Nice to see that the folks in Santa Clara County were researching fraudster Apollo Johnsen.

Behold the power of the blog…
