A Cautionary Note about Lane Bryant…

My wife visited Lane Bryant last November in order to do some early Christmas shopping for out-of-state recipients. The checkout clerk offered incredible savings if my wife agreed to open an account — 30% off the total. Understandably, since the out-of-towners were going to receive a heap of clothes, she jumped at the deal.

As seems typical in this less-than-honest age, the first envelope from Lane Bryant appeared on our doorstep on January 20, one day after the due date on the enclosed bill. The entire amount was paid in full the same day and, of course, they tacked on late fees and interest onto the next bill which I received yesterday.

A call to Sophia at “customer service” was typically unhelpful, and I ending up having to leave a polite but firm voicemail for a supervisor. It’s not worth a letter writing at this point, but I will not pay the extortionate $26.98 balance. I don’t care what their policies are; mine will always override theirs.

April 2007 Update:

Apparently, contacting a supervisor was not quite enough and we received yet another bill with late fees and interest charges, now totaling $53.98. So we contacted customer support again. Of course, rather than letting us speak to customer service, they routed us directly to their collections department in India. Once we told our story yet again, we were sent back to customer support. There, representative April told us that Sophia (the rude and unhelpful person we spoke to last time) had been ordered by the supervisor to reverse the charges but she had failed to do so.

Now, in theory, thanks to April seeing the notes on our account left by the supervisor, our balance is once again $0. We’ll see if another bill comes…

Funny,I never have had a problem with them and have a credit account and always receive my bills well before the due date. They are my favorite place to shop and have always found them honest and very helpful. So I feel your one bad experience should not brand them as dishonest.
