Websites Gone Bad!

On the heels of a scathing column on web design comes the Websites Gone Bad video. It’s kind of like those late-night Girls Gone Wild DVDs. Without the sunny beach resorts. Or the Mardis Gras beads. Or the whipped cream. Or the wet T-shirts. Or the camel-toes. Or the naked girls. But there are lots of really bad websites!

I started this project today around noon (a lazy Saturday with the kids), and finished rendering it a few hours later. That included downloading (the completely awesome and free) CamStudio screen recording software, finding the crappiest websites, recording them, finding the Benny Hill theme, and rearranging the video files to the music.

All of the websites on the video are real. There are hundreds and thousands of equally crappy websites out there, waiting for you to stumble upon them.

Makes you want to puke, doesn’t it?

Y’know, that one that pops up around the 1:00 mark could have been worse….

Yes, but when you visit the site, you have to sit through about two minutes of the groovy gal before you even get the main menu to help you determine whatever the hëll it is the company’s trying to flog. It’s funny, and it doesn’t look that bad, but the overall experience is grating because of the forced wait.
