Using Firefox v2.x Add-ons with v3.0 Beta 2…

On a whim, I upgraded my browser at work to Firefox v3.0 Beta 2. All my valued, trusted add-ons stopped working. Ðámn, hadn’t thought of that!

There is, however, a fairly simple workaround that will allow many of them to load and function fairly reliably.

  1. Open up the about:config page in your Firefox address bar.
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page and select New -> Boolean.
  3. At the “Enter the preference name” prompt, type extensions.checkCompatibility.
  4. Select False and click OK.
  5. Restart Firefox

A few add-ons still won’t work at all and you may see some unusual behavior in others, but you might have enough of them to function well enough to keep you going while you wait for updates.

Hey I read your list on World of Warcraft. Funny, funny šhìt. Anyway, I thought it might make a good poster. If you’re interested, email me so I can tell you how little we’re gonna offer for it.
