Due to my daughter once again blatantly ignoring the house rules on cell phone usage and racking up almost $89 in text message charges last month, she’s been removed from the family plan. I removed myself, too, because I just don’t use it, leaving only my wife on an individual plan and saving us about [...]
Welcome to the newly re-re-re-designed Richard’s Ramblings! The blog has seen quite a bit of upheaval in 2007 with three different designs, perhaps mirroring the unsettled psyche of its creator (me!). The year isn’t even over, so perhaps even more surprises are yet to come!
It didn’t start out so schizoid, though!
With the first pages of [...]
Meet Gina, this weekend’s creation.
She was a terrific incentive to introduce my new Wacom graphics tablet to my now-obsolete Adobe Illustrator CS2. Having been digitized, she finally gets to live somewhere besides my whiteboard at work.
Spent much of the afternoon trying to find a useful domain name to register, but everything remotely interesting (and a slew of uninspired ones) already seems to be taken.
Instead of watching the Stupid Bowl and downing Budweisers like the rest of America, I spent some quality time with a soldering iron, a spool of carcinogenic high-tech rosin-core, and a cardboard box full of tiny electronic parts.
One of my many unfinished projects is building some 64-port controller boards with the idea that someday a [...]

As usual, at the end of one year, I like to do a quick recap of some of the things that happened during the prior year — just to kind of sum up the year in a few sentences or paragraphs.
Looking back, Sterling learned to play chess, and he went fishing for the first time [...]
My 1996 Saturn SL2 needs a new EGR valve (OEM #21006601) which is apparently fairly easy to install, so I figured I’d do it myself. Of course, the first step was to shop around. I was quite surprised by the range of prices and decided to share my findings. Prices listed are for parts only.
It’s not too late to create a huge-ášš spider for your front lawn. Just gather a little PVC pipe (well, OK, quite of LOT of PVC pipe actually!) and piece it together for a fun decoration that costs about $50 in parts. Assembly took about half an hour.
Each of the legs is made up of [...]
I’m in the market in the next few months for a new car. This one is guaranteed to be a convertible since I’ve been stuck in a non-convertible Saturn SL2 economy sedan for more than ten years now. The price of whatever vehicle I get is definitely a major component to consider so I’ve ruled [...]
