First Quarter 2008 Server Logs

It’s been a while since I’ve poked fun at some of the search terms folks have used to find this website. Why stop now?

Alexa Now Ranks This Website Higher…

Unlike in the past, I have recently started to keep on eye on this site’s Alexa ranking, and have noticed some significant and surprising movement.

Weak vs Strong Passwords…

While moving from one web hosting provider to another, I came across a server log that showed a list of failed login attempts, detailing seven days of attempted break-ins near the end of this last September. Fortunately, my password is fairly strong, but it could be a lot better.

May-July 2006 Server Logs…

I wrote a new Perl script last night with which I can automatically look up and (just as importantly) archive a month’s worth of hostnames and whois information for every non-spamming, non-spider visitor that views an unspecified number of web pages here on my ramblings — which, of course, is preserved in a PDF file. About a thousand people were searching for solutions to their “manifest parse error” when installing Windows [...]

No Longer in the Running…

I’ve been sadly replaced in the top Google searches for “stephanie adams”. Either no one has searched for her in the last week, or Google has decided that my site is no longer worthy to be in fourth place. *sniff*
Now, however, of the 106 search terms that have been used to find my website in [...]

I Love Server Logs…

If you know what to look for, you can find some really interesting facts on the Internet:
The top search term used to find the Ohio State University Department of Computer and Information Science website in October 2001 was “suicide”.
If I were to visit Professor David Gosman’s CFD research group at the Thermofluids section of Department [...]

Bernaola Twins Nude?

Now that my ramblings have been around for almost three months, I thought I’d do a bit of web server log analysis to see what people had searched for when they finally arrived at my site. Here are only a few of the most interesting:

“cbs survivor logo” — If it was me, I’d go directly [...]
